160657 Cartridge: Kitchen Faucet

The 160657 water flow cartridge is built directly below the faucet handle and controls both volume and temperature. It is commonly used in Moen single handle faucets produced after 2012 (date varies based on style and model).

Preparation:

  • The water supply shut off valves must be turned off- see article How to Turn Off the Water Supply to the Faucet.
  • Recommended Tools: Pliers
  • The following instructions assume the handle and associated handle pieces have been removed. For additional details, visit solutions.moen.com and select the type you are repairing. The faucet guide will contain specific information on handle assemblies associated with that style of product.

Moen manufactures many types of faucets that use the 160657 cartridge. The different faucet categories are based on where the on/off handle is located. Refer to the images below based on your handle location.

Removing The Cartridge

1. Using pliers, unthread the black retainer nut with two flat edges (#1) counter-clockwise.

2. Pull the cartridge (#2) out of the faucet.

It is recommended to clean and flush the valve body prior to installing the new cartridge. See article Valve Body Cleaning and Flushing for additional details.

Installing The Cartridge

1. Line up the three ribs on the cartridge (#2) with the three grooves inside of the valve body. The cartridge (#2) will only fit in one way (See Images).

2.  Tighten the black retainer nut (#1) by hand until tight, then using pliers, rotate an additional 90° (1/4 turn) with a wrench.
