Handle Service Kit 221806: 1/2" Exact Temp Thermostatic System

This article provides step‑by‑step instructions for Part Number 221806. The kit is specifically designed to replace and repair only the internal, non-metallic components of the Thermostatic Handle Kit 139885 used with the 3301/3321 (1/2" Exact Temp) valve system, allowing the original decorative handle to be reused.

Preparation:

The water supply shut off valves must be turned off- see article How To Turn Off The Water Supply To The Faucet

Recommended Tools:  Phillips Screwdriver

Components of the 1/2" Exact Temp Thermostatic Upper Knob:

1. O-Ring

2. Grip Ring

3. Upper Shell

4. Chassis

5. Spline Shaft

6. Cap Screw

7. Cap Gasket

8. Cap

Step 1: Removing the Knob Handle from the Shower System:

Step 1.1 With the water supply off (see Preparation) hold the Grip Ring (2) steady with one hand, twist the Lower Shell counterclockwise to loosen the handle.

Step 1.2. Pull the Handle off the shower system
Step 2: Disassemble Handle 139885 for Repair:

Step 2.1. Hold the handle upside down in one hand with the inside Cap Screw (6) in your view. 

Step 2.2. Remove the Lower Shell by sliding it off.

Step. 2.3. Hold the handle firmly in the palm of your hand. Insert a Phillips Screwdriver. Twisting 3 turns counterclockwise remove the Cap Screw (6) inside the assembly.

Step 3.4. Separate the Chassis (4)  from the Grip Ring (2), Upper Shell (3), and Cap (8). 
Step 3: Installing Service Kit 221806:

Step 3.1. Replace with the new Chassis (4) and Spline Shaft (5). The Spline Shaft (5) tabs will need to align with the indents in the in the Cap (8).

Step 3.2. Install and tighten the Cap Screw (6) by twisting your screwdriver clockwise to complete the assembly.
Step 4: Reinstalling the handle for 1/2" Exact Temp Shower System:

Step 4.1. Slide your handle onto the shower system

Step 4.2. While holding the Grip Ring (2) steady with one hand, twist the Lower Shell clockwise to tighten. 

Congratulations! You may now turn your water supply back on. If you are having issues with your temperature after the the handle has been reinstalled, you may need to recalibrate your system. Please visit- Shower Faucet: Temperature Recalibration- 1/2" Exact Temp Valve
