Replacing Handshower and 1417 Elbow

Preparation: The water supply shut off valves must be turned off- see article How to Turn Off the Water Supply to the Faucet.

Replacing the Handshower

Disassembly:

  1. Unthread the handshower (#1) counter-clockwise from the elbow (#3). If the screen washer (#2) is being replaced or cleaned, it can be found in the threaded portion of the handshower (#1).
  2. If the threading on the original handshower (#1) is broken, remove any broken pieces from the elbow (#3).

Assembly:

  1. Gently push the screen washer (#2) into the back of the handshower (#1) if it was removed.
  2. Thread the handshower (#1) into the elbow (#3) clockwise.
Replacing the 1417 Elbow

Disassembly:

  1. Secure the handshower hose (#4) by tying a towel around it so that it does not retract under the deck of the tub.
  2. Unthread the handshower (#1) counter-clockwise.
  3. Unthread the elbow (#3) counter-clockwise from the handshower hose (#4).

Assembly:

  1. Thread the elbow (#3) into the handshower hose (#4).
  2. Thread the handshower (#1) into the elbow (#3) clockwise.
  3. Remove the towel securing the handshower hose (#4).
