Single Handle 4" Centerset Sidemount Lever: Direct Connect 160657

Moen produces a variety of single handle bathroom faucets. The interior components and assembly are not the same for each model. This article will explain one of the more common handle assemblies referred to as a Direct Connect 160657. This handle style was introduced in 2010, and utilizes a 160657 cartridge.

Preparation:

The water supply shut off valves must be turned off- see article How to Turn Off the Water Supply to the Faucet.
Recommended Tools: 3/32" Hex Wrench

Disassembly:

Remove the plug button (#1).
Insert a 3/32" Hex wrench into the hole on the front of the handle (#3) and unthread the set screw (#2). It is not necessary to remove the set screw (#2), loosen it until the handle (#3) lifts off the faucet.
Unthread the handle dome (#4).

Assembly:

Thread the handle dome (#4) back onto the faucet.
Place the handle (#3) on top of the stem of the cartridge.
Insert the 3/32" Hex wrench into the hole on the handle (#3) to tighten the set screw (#2). Insert the plug button (#1).
