Two Handle 4" Centerset Knob: Threaded Cap

Moen produces a variety of two handle bathroom faucets. The interior components and assembly are not the same for each model. This article will explain one of the most common handle assemblies referred to as a Threaded Cap Knob. This faucet style utilizes a 1224 cartridge.


Preparation:

DISASSEMBLY:

  1. Unthread the handle cap (#1). The gasket (#2) will come off with the handle cap (#1).
  2. Pull off the handle insert (#3).
  3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the handle screw (#3).
  4. The handle skirt (#6) pulls off followed by the handle adapter (#5)

ASSEMBLY:

  1. Install the handle adapter (#5) by sliding it onto the cartridge.
  2. Slide the handle skirt (#6) back on to the faucet.
  3. Thread and tighten the handle screw (#4).
  4. Replace the handle insert (#3).
  5. Screw the handle cap (#1) back on.
