Troubleshooting: Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff Not Registering Water Flow
If your Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff is not displaying water flow or usage in the app, follow these steps to verify that the internal flow sensor is functioning properly.
How It Works
The Flo device uses a turbine system that sends signals to an internal sensor to measure your home's water usage. Occasionally, debris from installation or plumbing repairs can interfere with the sensor, requiring removal and inspection of the device.
Steps to Inspect and Clean the Flow Sensor
-
Turn off the main water supply and drain the plumbing system.
Tip: Open multiple fixtures throughout the home to help drain water completely. -
Loosen the two black polymer union nuts using a wrench.
Tip: Turn the nuts counter-clockwise to loosen. -
Carefully remove the Flo device and inspect the inner valve body and turbine for any debris or blockages.
-
Clean out any debris and gently blow into the turbine housing to ensure the turbine spins freely.
-
Reinstall the Flo device, ensuring the two O-rings are properly seated before securing it to the plumbing line.
-
Check the orientation of the device.
Tip: Follow the arrows on the unit indicating the direction of water flow toward your home’s fixtures. -
Secure the union nuts by hand-tightening, then give a ¼ turn with a wrench.
Do not over-tighten. -
Gradually reopen the main shutoff valve to allow water to flow back through the system and the Flo device.
