How To Tell If My Shower System Is A Moen:

This guide will explain how to identify a Moen shower systemMoen shower faucets are designed with serviceability in mind; however, identification is required to ensure the correct repair parts are ordered. 

 

Most Moen fixtures will have the name "Moen" either written or engraved on the handle or escutcheon trim plate behind the handle. For single handle showers and tub/showers, the word Moen will be located on the escutcheon trim plate. For two and three handle showers and tub/showers, the word Moen will be located on the knob handle caps or the small round escutcheon trim plates behind the lever handle.

Review the information below to determine which shower system you have installed.

How To Identify My Single Handle Shower System:

Older Product may say Dialcet or Stanadyne on escutcheon plate

Can I still buy trim for the Standard valve?  No, Moen no longer produces Standard valves; however, Moen still manufactures replacement parts (See Replacement Parts).

Will any other current trim work with the Standard valve? Yes, with the separate purchase of a 145058 adapter kit the Standard valve will accept any current Moentrol trim kit that uses a round 7" escutcheon.

Will the 145058 adapter kit work with all current Moentrol trim? No, 145058 adapter kit is not compatible with the following line of Moentrol trim kits: Flara, Doux, Weymouth and Arris.

What is Temperature memory?  When shutting-off the faucet, the handle stays in the exact temperature position you set during use. The next time you turn on the shower, within a few seconds, the water temperature reaches your last temperature setting.

Can I buy replacement parts for the original Moentol valve?  Yes, Moen still manufactures parts (See Replacement Parts ).

Will any other current style trim work with the original Moentrol valve? No, Moen does not manufactures a current style trim that will fit on the original Moentrol valve.

Will the 145058 adapter kit work with the original Moentrol trim? No, the original Moentrol trim will not accept the 145058 adapter plate.

Are all Moentrol valves the same?  No, the original Moentrol and the current Moentrol are different in dimensions and are not compatible.

Can I still buy trim for the Moentrol valve? Yes, Moen still manufactures Moentrol valves and trim; however, the product line will be retired at the end of 2020.

Will Moentrol replacement parts still be available after 2020? Yes, Moen will still manufacture Moentrol replacement parts (See Replacement Parts ).

Are all Moentrol valves the same? No, the original Moentrol and the current Moentrol are different in dimensions and are not compatible. 

What is Pressure Balanced? A pressure-balancing tub and shower faucet balances incoming hot and cold water pressure to compensate for fluctuations in water flow. Balancing the water flow keeps shower temperatures constant and comfortable, within ±3°F (1°C) of the original temperature, despite other demands such as flushing the toilet or starting the dishwasher. Moen's PosiTemp and Moentrol® tub and shower valves all feature pressure-balancing. Both valves require pressure on the hot and the cold side to operate.

Can I still buy trim for the PosiTemp valve? Yes, Moen still manufactures PosiTemp valves and trim.

Does the PosiTemp valve offer volume control? No, the PosiTemp valve is a cycling valve.  A cycling valve maintains a constant flow of water while cycling from cold through warm to hot.

What is Pressure Balanced? A pressure-balancing tub and shower faucet balances incoming hot and cold water pressure to compensate for fluctuations in water flow.     • Lever handles operate with a 1/4 turn
    • Knob handles operate with a 180 degree rotation

  • 1 Required for cold

Is there trim available for a two handle shower systems? No, all two handle shower systems are sold as complete kits that include the valve and trim; however, replacement parts can be purchased. 

What is a basic showering system?  A basic showering system is one showerhead or one showerhead and one tub spout.

What are multiple components? Multiple components are more than a shower or tub and shower, commonly referred to as a Spa or Vertical Spa (two showerheads, body sprays, one showerhead and a hand shower, rain showers, etc.).

Features and Benefits:

  • Rotate the handles to turn the water On/Off and to control Hot/Cold water volume.
    • Lever handles operate with a 1/4 turn
    • Knob handles operate with a 180 degree rotation
  • Diverter knob rotates to divert the water between the showerhead and tub spout.
