How to Clean a Disposal

Do I Need To Lubricate The Disposal Motor?
No, the motor is permanently lubricated.
How Do I Clean The Inside Of The Disposal?
The disposal is self-cleaning and scours its internal parts with each use.
Can I Use Drain Cleaners With The Disposal?
NEVER put lye or chemical drain cleaners into the disposal, as they cause serious corrosion of metal parts. If used, resulting damage can be easily detected and all warranties are void.
My Turntable Appears Rusted
There is no need to clean the turntable. Mineral deposits from your water can form on the stainless steel turntable, giving the appearance of rust. Do not be alarmed, the stainless steel turntables used will not corrode or rust.
Eliminating Odors

Confirm the disposal is draining properly. Clog/slow draining disposals may develop a noticeable odor.

Odors may also come from the splash guard. The splash guard can be pulled out to remove and cleaned (never pull the splash guard out without the power being cut off first).

Unplug the disposal or, if it is hardwired, turn the power off at the electrical box. Never place your hands in the disposal. Always use tongs or needle nose pliers to remove an object.

  • The splash guard is dishwasher safe.
  • Manual Wash:
  1. Once it is confirmed that the power is off, pull the splash guard out.
  2. Scrub the underside of the splash guard with baking soda and warm water.
  3. Rinse splash guard off with warm water.
  4. Re-install splash guard.
  5. Plug disposal back in or turn the power back on.
  • You can purchase a replacement splash guard and stopper (Item 1025).
