How Do I Clean The Filters On My Faucet?

 

Filter cleaning is recommended on a Moen Hands Free Faucet if you are experiencing overall low water flow and temperature specific low water flow.

MotionSense Dual Sensors;

2012-2015-Gray Control Box with 6 Hoses

 To proceed with this repair you must shut off the water source that supply this faucet.  For details see How To Shut Off The Water Supply

 

 This control box has two filters.

How to Clean the First Filter

1. The gray control box has hose numbers imprinted on it. The number 2 hose has a built in filter. To remove the filter from hose number 2, hold the gray ring down that's located on the gray control box where the hose goes into it and pull out on the hose.

2. Once the hose is disconnected, unthread the brass fitting on the end of the hose. Hold the number 2 hose with a wrench at top of the filter connection. Unscrew the filter with the second wrench.

3. Rinse debris from the filter screen. Reassemble the filter into the housing and tighten using two wrenches. Insert the number 2 hose assembly into control box. Turn on the water supply.

How to Clean the Second Filter

1. The housing for the lower filter is located on the underside of the control box. Loosen the screw with a flathead screwdriver.

2. Pull the filter off the screw.

3. Rinse debris from filter screen. Firmly push the filter back onto screw. Thread back into the control box. Turn on the water supply.

MotionSense Dual Sensor:

2015-Present-Black Control Box with 3 Hoses

 To proceed with this repair you must shut off the water source that supply this faucet.  For details see How To Shut Off The Water Supply

For models built prior to 2019. 

1. The filters are located in the hot and cold supply lines that come down from the black control box.

2. To remove the hot and cold supply lines from the control box, hold the grey ring down that's located on the black control box where the hose goes into it and pull out on the hose.

3. The filter will be located in the brass portion of the hot and cold supply lines which can be unthreaded with a wrench to be accessed.

4. Rinse debris from the filter screen. Reassemble the filter into the housing and tighten using two wrenches. Insert the hose assembly into the control box. Turn on the water supply.

For models built 11/2019-Present. 

1. The filters are located in the hot and cold supply lines that come down from the black control box.

2.Insert each filter hose into a cup of water.
3. Agitate the filter hoses back and forth for 15 seconds to remove any
possible debris. Remove the filter hoses from the cup and drain.

Note: 4. The filter screen can be removed for further cleaning. The screen must be reinstalled to maintain product warranty. Use your fingers or needle nose pliers to remove the filter screen.

5. Insert each filter screen into a cup of water. Agitate the filter screen by hand for 15 seconds then drain excess water from the filter screen. Repeat the process for both supply line filters.

6. Reassemble the filter screen into the housing using needle nose pliers or by hand. Push back up into hose ends (snaps into place).

7. Connect the supply lines to the shut off valves. Ensure the faucet supply line with Label (AA) connects to the hot supply stop.Tighten with a wrench.Turn the water on. Check for any leaks

MotionSense Wave- Single Side Sensor:

2018-Present-Black Control Box with 3 Hoses

 To proceed with this repair you must shut off the water source that supply this faucet.  For details see How To Shut Off The Water Supply

For models built prior to 2019. 

1. The filters are located in the hot and cold supply lines that come down from the black control box.

8.  Check to ensure the handle is working properly. Turn on the water with handle to test that hot and cold water will run. Turn the  handle off.
