Identifying the Cartridge

Special Note:Screen Shot 2019-02-13 at 2.30.49 PM.png If the shower faucet has been disassembled, please refer to the “Reassembly Checklist” at the end of this document before moving to step 1.

Operating the Cartridge

  1. If the handle must be pulled to turn the faucet on, skip to step 2. If the handle must be rotated to turn the faucet on and off, skip to step 4.
  2. Using either your hand or pliers, pull the brass stem of the cartridge to turn the faucet on. To turn the faucet off, push the stem in.
  3. To control the water temperature, rotate the brass stem clockwise for hot water or counter-clockwise for cold water. If you have used locking pliers, like Vice Grips, you can leave the locking pliers on the brass stem and use this as a temporary handle.

  5. To control the water temperature, rotate the brass stem clockwise for cold water. Continue this clockwise rotation for warm and eventually hot water. If used locking pliers, like Vice Grips, you can leave the locking pliers on the brass stem and use this as a temporary handle.

You are all done!

Faucet Reassembly Checklist

If the shower faucet has been disassembled, it is possible that very important parts have been left uninstalled. The absence of these parts could cause the cartridge to be unsecured and present a risk of water erupting from the faucet.

  1. Cartridge: If this has been removed, insure it is fully seated in the valve body.

  2. Cartridge clip: If this has been removed, slide this back into the valve body.

Once you have insured that all of the items are on the faucet and secure, you may move to step 1.
