RT1-Moen Roman Tub Trim Compatibility Guide

This guide can be utilized to determine if the M*Pact Moen Roman Tub Trim will be compatible with an older Moen roman tub valve.

Step One (will the spout fit?)

Remove the old spout and measure the spout shank. This measurement should be taken from the base of the deck to the top of the spout shank.

  • If the spout shank measures 1 ½” or above, any of the current M*Pact Moen Roman Tub spouts will fit. Go to Step Two to determine if the handles will be compatible.
  • If the spout shank measures between 1 ⅜” to 1 ½”, please view the Spout Chart on page two to determine which spouts will be compatible depending on the height of the spout shank. Go to Step Two to determine if the handles will be compatible.
  • If the spout shank measures under 1 ⅜”, the new spouts will not be compatible. There is no need to look any further; the entire valve would need to be replaced to use any new trim.

Step Two (Will the handles fit?)

Remove the handle to investigate the stem extension or handle adapter. The stem extension / handle adapter is the piece that the handle fits over. This will either have vertical “splines” or it will have a shape that consists of three flat sides and one curved side (“D” shaped).

  • If it has vertical “Splines”, any of the new trim handles will be compatible. There is no need to investigate any further – no additional parts or kits are needed to accept the new handles.
The vertical “Splines” may go down 2” in length, (like this example) or they may only be ½”in length from the top of the extension.

  • If the top of this piece has a shape that consists of three flat sides and one curved side (“D” shaped), it will look like either of these two examples:
Both of these will have 3 flat sides and one curved side, like the letter “D” at the top.

There is an additional step to determine if this style will work with the new handles. Proceed to step three.

Step Three (Will the handles fit?)

Look at the six-sided nut that will be located at the base of the stem extension / handle adapter. This will either be a chrome metal nut or a white plastic nut.

  • If this is a chrome metal nut, then any of the current handles can be used, but the stem extensions and the chrome metal nut will need to be removed and replaced with the stem extensions located in Moen Service Kit 106378. This kit includes both hot and cold stem extensions. There is no need to investigate any further.
  • If this is a white plastic nut, then the threads inside of the valve body will need to be investigated. First, turn off the water pressure going to the unit. Second, unscrew this white plastic nut and remove the stem extension / handle adapter. Finally, inspect the interior of the valve body.
    • If the valve body is threaded all the way down to the cartridge, then any of the current handles can be used, but the stem extensions and the chrome metal nut will need to be removed and replaced with the stem extensions located in Moen Service Kit 106378. This kit includes both hot and cold stem extensions. There is no need to investigate any further.
    • If the valve body is not threaded all the way down to the cartridge, then the new handles cannot be used. The only option would be to replace the valve body and trim.
