Years ago, my family and I returned from a trip to discover that our home had suffered catastrophic water damage while we were away. We were forced to relocate for an extended period of time, as we spent thousands of dollars on costly repairs and picked up the pieces from precious family mementos that were destroyed from the damage.  It was awful. Since then, my father and I launched our award-winning Smart Water Shutoff, and have been committed to protecting homes and sparing homeowners from suffering the way we did.

In 2018, Flo was first to boldly put our money where our mouth was with our guarantee that our system would prevent the most common cause of preventable homeowners insurance claims and began offering our customers even more protection with FloProtect.

Today, I’m ecstatic to share some groundbreaking findings that validate our confidence.

Together with LexisNexis Risk Solutions, a leading provider of essential data to help the insurance industry predict and manage risk, we are proud to announce results from a study proving the efficacy of the Flo by Moen Smart Water Shutoff in decreasing the number and severity of water-related home insurance claims. The study compared thousands of U.S. homes equipped with our Smart Water Shutoff, to a group of over a million U.S. homes that were not. The results demonstrate the value of Flo by Moen’s Smart Water Shutoff and prove the astronomical benefits of having a leak prevention device installed.

Most significantly, the study revealed that homes with a Flo by Moen Smart Water Shutoff installed saw a 96% decrease in water damage insurance claims, and a 72% decrease in claims severity. On the other hand, homes without a Flo by Moen Smart Water Shutoff experienced a 10% increase in insurance claims and a 1% increase in claims severity.

The bottom line: installing our Smart Water Shutoff essentially guarantees that homeowners will not experience expensive water damage and, from my own personal experience, significant emotional hardship. During these unprecedented times, I can’t imagine being displaced from my home as a result of water damage and, at Flo by Moen, we never want our customers to be faced with that situation.
