Can the Moen Flo Shutoff be installed on any type of water supply line?

This article contains information relevant to the Moen Flo Shutoff, which was formerly known as the Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff system.

This article contains information relevant to the Moen Flo App, which was formerly known as the Moen Smart Water Network app, Moen Smart Water app, Moen app, and Flo by Moen app.

The Moen Flo Shutoff is designed for use on potable water service lines such as copper, PEX and PVC. The Moen Flo Shutoff can be installed on galvanized piping only if there is no galvanized pipe upstream of the installation point. This ensures that the device’s flow sensor, which utilizes a turbine and magnets, operates without interference. Galvanized pipes are prone to corrosion and may cause magnetic interference, potentially impacting the device’s accuracy and its ability to effectively monitor and protect the plumbing system. DO NOT install the Moen Flo Shutoff device if any part of the upstream system contains galvanized piping.

When installed on well system or irrigation water service lines prior to a water filtration system, a wye strainer with a 100 mesh or finer screen and blow-down port is required to catch any sediment or particles from ground source or casing. The reason for this change is that cartridge filter housing failures are statistically significant in residential claims. The mesh screen in the strainer may require maintenance at times independent of the Moen Flo Shutoff.

We also recommend the installation of the Moen Flo Shutoff to be after (downstream) the well pump (pressurization), filtration, and the water storage tank.
