Roman Tub Filler Deck Mount: Knob
​Moen produces a variety of Roman Tub rough-in valves. The handle assembly and interior handle mechanisms are not the same for each valve and they are not interchangeable. In order to service your Roman Tub, we recommend that you identify your handle assembly and handle mechanism. This article will walk your through the process.

PreparationThe water supply shut off valves must be turned off- see article  How to Turn Off the Water Supply to the Faucet.


Step 1: Identify Handle Assembly

Flat Cap Prior To 2011

Identifier: This style of knob will have a removable cap on top. Underneath will be  a Phillips screw. 

To Remove the Handle Assembly

Tool Required: Phillips Screwdriver 

Process: Remove the screw, lift off the knob and proceed to Step 2. 

Flat Cap After 2011

Identifier: This style knob will have a removable cap on top with no screw underneath.

To Remove the Handle Assembly

Tool Required: Phillips Screwdriver 

Process: Hold the clear plastic knob while rotating the metal base escutcheon counterclockwise and proceed to Step 2.

Threaded Cap

IdentifierThis style knob has a threaded cap on the top of the handle.

To Remove the Handle Assembly

Tool Required: Phillips Screwdriver

Threaded Hub

Identifier: This style knob does have a removal cap and visible screw, however this is not how this handle is removed.  See Process.

To Remove the Handle Assembly

Tools Required: None

Process: Hold the cross knob while rotating the large round middle section counterclockwise and proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Identify Handle Mechanism

Once your handle assembly has been removed, compare the visible parts to the images below to identify your handle mechanism. This information will be beneficial for choosing from the recommended articles below.
