Excessive Alerts and Sensor Interferences

The reliability of Sump pump monitor can be affected by various interferences. Here are some of the most common factors that can lead to excessive alerts:
Debris: Accumulation of spider webs and debris in the sump pump basin and/or cone can interfere with the sensor's accuracy. It can cause the sensor to detect the debris as an increased water level, triggering excessive alerts.

Cords or other objects that fall into the sump basin: Objects such as toys can obstruct the sensor line of sight to the basin water surface.

Reflective objects in the basin: For example, metal handle on the pump which comes in to view as water level falls.

Water turbulence at the basin water surface due to inflow/outflow. For example: high inflow into the basin can disturb water surface and cause false alerts. Some systems have vent hole that sprays water while pump is working, and if spray interferes with the sensor line of sight false alerts can occur.

To mitigate these interferences and reduce the occurrence of excessive alerts, regular maintenance and monitoring are essential. Cleaning the sump pump basin, inspecting, and adjusting the sensor's position if necessary, and ensuring proper electrical connections can help maintain reliable sensor functionality and accurate water level detection.
