Can the Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff be installed on any type of water supply line?

The Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff is designed for use on potable water service lines such as copper, PEX and PVC.

If galvanized plumbing is present where the Flo device is being connected or within 4 - 6 feet of the installation point, the Flo unit should not be installed until piping is replaced.

If plumber verifies galvanized piping is more than 4 - 6 feet upstream of the installation point, installation can be done but it is strongly advised that protective filtration, such as a spin‑down filter and/or a 150‑mesh wye strainer be installed on non-galvanized piping because internal corrosion in galvanized pipe releases rust flakes and granular debris that can interfere with the device’s sensors.

When installed on well system or irrigation water service lines prior to a water filtration system, a wye strainer with a 100 mesh or finer screen and blow-down port is required to catch any sediment or particles from ground source or casing. The reason for this change is that cartridge filter housing failures are statistically significant in residential claims. The mesh screen in the strainer may require maintenance at times independent of the Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff.

We also recommend the installation of the Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff to be after (downstream) the well pump (pressurization), filtration, and the water storage tank.
