Terms and Conditions - Flo Standard Installation
This article includes detailed information on the Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff, also known as the Flo by Moen Water Shutoff. It also refers to the Moen Smart Water app, also known as the Flo by Moen app.
Our Flo Standard Installation service is designed to provide professional and hassle-free installation for your Flo Smart Water Shutoff device. This service is available with select purchases on moen.com and comes with specific terms and conditions to ensure a smooth and transparent installation process. Below, we outline what is included in your installation, what is not covered, potential exclusions, and how additional work is handled if needed.
Independent Third-Party Installers
Installation is provided by independent third-party contractors who are not employees, agents, or representatives of Moen (“Installers”). Moen does not control or supervise their work and is not responsible for their performance. There is no association, partnership, or joint venture between Moen and the Installers. By purchasing installation services, you acknowledge that Moen does not perform the installation directly and agree to the use of an Installer selected by Moen.
Installers reserve the right to decline an installation for any reasonable reason, including but not limited to safety concerns, non-compliance with the Flo device’s operating and installation specifications, or other unforeseen challenges at the installation site. Moen does not influence or determine whether an Installer will complete the work, nor does Moen assume liability for an Installer’s decision to refuse service.
Installation services are available only in select regions and may not be offered in remote or hard-to-access areas, including certain island locations. Additionally, installation services may not be available at your home for other reasons at Moen’s or Installer’s ultimate discretion, such as limitations in the availability of Installers, specific plumbing system requirements, or other logistical challenges. If installation was available at checkout but later cannot be scheduled or fulfilled due to Installer availability or unforeseen issues, this may prevent the completion of the installation portion of your order. In this case, please contact Moen Support to explore your options, including a full refund in accordance with our refund policy.
What’s included:
Standard Installation* of one customer-supplied Moen Flo device:
- Professionally installed by a licensed plumber on the main water supply line inside or outside your home.
Basic cable management:
- Securing the power adapter’s transformer and safely routing one customer-supplied 25-foot low voltage extension cable to an accessible, approved outlet.
Device setup assistance:
- Guidance on downloading and setting up the Moen Smart Water Network app on your smartphone.
- Assistance with pairing your Moen Flo device to your home’s Wi-Fi and confirming it is fully operational.
Testing and Checking for Leaks
- Testing of the installation to check for leaks and verify proper water flow.
Clean-up:
- Removal of any debris created during the installation process, ensuring the area is left clean and tidy.
Requirements for a Standard Installation:
- You are the owner of the home, and the installation location is a residential property.
- The potable water supply is not galvanized steel.
- You or an authorized representative must be present during the installation with the Moen Flo Smart Water Shutoff already paired to the home’s Wi-Fi using the Moen Smart Water Network app. This is required for the Installer to test and confirm proper device operation.
- The water main location where the Moen Flo Smart Water Shutoff will be installed is easily accessible and above
- An accessible approved outlet is within reach of the installation location, either by the device’s power adapter cord alone or with Moen's 25-foot low voltage extension cord (if supplied by the customer).
- A minimum section of accessible, uninterrupted, straight pipe on your main water supply line, after your manual shutoff valve and/or pressure reducing valve (some homes may not have a manual shutoff and/or pressure reducing valve), to allow the third-party installer to install the Moen Flo Smart Water Shutoff in-line on the existing water line or allow them to reroute the water line so as to create a “loop” to fit the Moen Flo Smart Water Shutoff, if needed.
*Standard Installation:
Flo Standard installation includes the installation of a Moen Flo device by a licensed plumber, per device installation instructions, on a ¾”, 1”, 1 ¼”, or 1 ½” exposed and accessible main water supply line inside or outside a residential home. Installation requires a minimum section of accessible, uninterrupted, straight pipe on the main water supply line to allow the third-party installer to install the Flo device inline or reroute the water line to create a “loop” to accommodate the device. Standard installation includes labor and the basic necessary fittings.
An accessible approved outlet must be within reach of the installation location of the Device, either by the Device’s power adapter cord alone or by using the power adapter with Moen's 25-foot low-voltage extension cord (if supplied by the customer). Basic cable management is included, which covers securing the power adapter’s transformer and ensuring that one customer-supplied 25-foot low voltage extension cable is safely routed to an approved outlet.
Additional work beyond the scope of a standard installation is not included and considered non-standard and may incur additional costs.
What’s Not Included
In some instances, existing conditions in the home’s plumbing system may prevent proper installation and require additional work. The following scenarios are not included within the pre-paid scope of work and are considered non-standard. If any of these situations exist, the third-party installer will assess the installation on-site and provide an estimate for any additional work required to complete the Standard Installation or for recommended work that is optional and may be unrelated to the installation.
All additional work deemed necessary by the third-party installer to meet the Flo device's operating and installation specifications must be documented in writing, including the scope of work and associated costs. This work must be approved by you, the customer, and paid directly to the third-party installer for the installation to proceed.
If the third-party installer provides recommendations for optional work that is not essential to meet the Flo device’s operating and installation specifications, the installation may still proceed without this work. Declining these optional recommendations will not affect the product warranty, the completion of the installation, or your eligibility for a return.
What’s not included in the Standard Installation:
- Power Access and Cable Management: An accessible approved outlet must be within reach of the Device’s power adapter cord length or within reach when using a single, customer-supplied Moen 25-foot low-voltage extension cord. Connecting this extension cord to the Device is included in the installation. If an accessible approved outlet is not available within this range, installing a new outlet would require a qualified electrician. Alternatively, customers may purchase and connect up to four Moen 25-foot low-voltage extension cords (maximum of 4 chained together) to extend reach as needed.
- Accessing Power Outlet: Services required to access the power outlet, such as drilling through walls or making structural modifications, are not included in the standard installation.
- Cable Management: Limited to securing the power adapter’s transformer and routing one customer-supplied 25-foot low-voltage extension cable to an approved outlet in a manner that does not create a tripping hazard or obstruct walkways, windows, or doors. Adding additional cables, tidying, concealing cables along walls, through ceilings, through walls, or making other structural modifications is outside the Standard Installation scope.
- Pre-existing Plumbing Issues: Work to rectify pre-existing plumbing issues, such as abnormal water pressure, a leaking or non-operational main water shutoff valve, or pressure regulating valve (PRV) repairs/replacement.
- Code Upgrades: Any piping that does not meet current code requirements or presents a hazard to the plumber must be upgraded before installation.
- Inaccessible Main Water Supply Line: Installations where the main water supply line is below ground, behind walls, or otherwise not exposed may require opening drywall, digging, or adding insulation enclosures, which falls outside the scope of standard installation. (Follow all device installation instructions: Note: The device cannot be installed in the ground.)
- Non-Standard Piping Material: Standard Installation does not include installations on galvanized water lines.
- Well System Without Sediment Filter: For homes supplied by a well system, an operational sediment filter with at least a 150-micron filter or 100 mesh wye strainer is required. If no filter exists or it does not meet specifications, additional labor and materials (e.g., special piping, fittings, filters, strainers) may be required.
- Note: If a sediment filter of at least 150 microns or a 100 mesh wye strainer is present, installation can proceed, assuming all other standard requirements are met.
- Irrigation System Modifications: Modifying existing plumbing to include or exclude an irrigation system.
- Fire Suppression System Modifications: Modifying existing plumbing to exclude a fire suppression system.
- Note: If a fire sprinkler system is present, the Moen Flo Smart Water Shutoff must be installed after the branch to the sprinkler system to avoid interference with its operation.
- Insufficient Straight Pipe: If there is not enough accessible, uninterrupted straight pipe after the home’s manual shutoff valve and/or pressure reducing valve on the main water supply line to perform the “standard Installation”, Additional labor and materials (e.g., special piping, fittings) may be required to modify the plumbing to create enough space for one of these installation options.
- Bracing or Support: Adding bracing or brackets to support the weight of plumbing and/or the Moen Flo Smart Water Shutoff.
- Wi-Fi Extenders or Equipment: Adding Wi-Fi range extenders or other equipment is not included if the Moen Flo Smart Water Shutoff location does not have sufficient Wi-Fi signal strength.
These non-standard scenarios are uncommon; the vast majority of installations fall under Standard Installation, with costs covered by your Flo Standard Installation purchase.
Unforeseen Issues: While every effort will be made by the Installer to provide a thorough estimate prior to installation, unforeseen issues (e.g., hidden corrosion, unexpected pipe material failure) may arise during the course of the work. In such cases, the Installer will notify you immediately and provide an updated estimate for approval before proceeding. Additional costs for unforeseen issues must be approved by you and paid directly to the Installer.
