Disassembly Using Needle-Nose Pliers:

  1. Slightly push on the side on the stem extension (#1) that has five splines at the top (see Image 1). Use pliers to pull up and remove the stem extension (#1).
  2. Insert needle nose pliers into the valve body (#4) so they are in the recesses in the cartridge nut (#2). Unthread the cartridge nut (#2). The cartridge nut (#2) will not unthread all the way out of the valve body (#4) so you will have to use the needle-nose pliers to pull the cartridge nut (#2) out.
  3. Pull the cartridge (#3) out of the valve body (#4).

Disassembly Using Removal Tool 14272:

  1. Use the removal tool 14272 to unthread the cartridge nut (#3). The cartridge nut (#2) will not unthread all the way out of the valve body (#4).
  2. Using pliers, pull up on the stem extension (#1) which will also pull the cartridge (#3) and cartridge nut (#2) out.
  3. To separate the stem extension (#1) from the cartridge (#3), slightly push on the side of the stem extension (#1) that has five splines at the top (see Image 1). Insert the end of a flathead screwdriver into this gap and gently twist the screwdriver to release the stem extension (#1) from the cartridge (#3).

Assembly:

  1. Insert the new cartridge (#3) into the valve body (#4) aligning the tabs on both sides of the the cartridge (#3) with the recessed indentations on both sides of the valve body (#4)
  2. Reinstall and tighten the cartridge nut (#2) using pliers or the removal tool (14272).
  3. Snap the stem extension (#1) onto the cartridge (#3).
  4. Rotate the stem extension (#1) to the "off" position (clockwise for hot, counter clockwise for cold) until it stops.
