168994 or 171892 O-Ring-Top Mount Handle with Pullout Sprayer (After 2009)

This article will explain the process used to install the lower o ring on a top handle faucet with a pullout sprayer built after 2009.

Preparation:

The water supply shut off valves must be turned off- see article How to Turn Off the Water Supply to the Faucet.
The following instructions assume the handle and associated handle pieces have been removed. For additional details, visit Top Handle with Pullout Sprayer Faucets and select the type you are repairing. The faucet guide will contain specific information on handle assemblies associated with that style of product.

1. Based on the images below, disconnect the hose from the Quick Connect.

Double Quick Connect: Follow the instructions below to disconnect the lower release tab closest to the hose.

Built-in Single Quick Connect: Follow the instructions below.

Black with white release tab-Squeeze the white tabs together and push the tabs in. Pull the hose from the quick connect.
White with black release tab-Press and hold the black button while pulling the hose out from the quick connect.

2. Once the hose is disconnected, remove the counter weight from under the sink. The hose weight will either slide off or unsnap (See Images).

3. From above the sink, pull the spray wand (#1) out from the receptor (#3). The spray wand (#1) and hose will come out as one piece.

4. Remove the upper bearing washer and o-ring (#2).

Caution: The upper bearing washer (#2) will need to be reused, be careful not to damage the the part. Use a pair of needle nose pliers and slightly pull back the prongs at the top of the upper bearing washer (#2) until it is loose, and lift it from the faucet.

5. Gently pull the spout receptor (#3) off of the faucet.

6. To service the lower spout o-ring:

If you received a 99915 silicone packet, lubricate the lower spout o-ring (#5) located at base of black valve body (#4).
If you received a new lower spout o-ring, remove original lower spout o-ring (#5) and discard. Using the silicone provided PN 99915, lubricate the new lower spout o-ring (#5) and insert into groove at the base of the valve body (#5).

7. Slide the spout receptor (#3) all the way back down until it is flush with the escutcheon plate or countertop.

8. Reinstall the upper bearing washer (#2).

If you received a new 170206 service kit, slide the o-ring (#E) into the grove on the upper bearing washer (See Diagram 1).
Carefully slide the upper bearing washer (#2) down the valve body so the split lines up with the vertical rib (A). Be careful not to expand or stretch the upper bearing washer (#2) out of shape. The bottom of the upper bearing washer (#2) tucks into the top of the receptor (#3) which will allow the prongs (B) to tuck under the valve overhang (C) (See Diagram 2). The receptor (#3) should not pull up if the upper bearing washer (#2) was installed properly. To test for movement, gently pull up on the receptor (#3).

9. Follow Steps 3,2,1 in reverse order.
