191919 Diverter Kit

This article will provide step-by-step instructions for replacing this service kit.


  • The water supply shut off valves must be turned off- see article How to Turn Off the Water Supply to the Faucet.
  • Recommended Tools: Soft Bristle Brush
  • The following instructions assume the handle and associated handle pieces have been removed. For additional details, visit and select the type you are repairing. The faucet guide will contain specific information on handle assemblies associated with that style of product.


Do not remove the black hex cartridge nut or the cartridge for this repair.

CAUTION: Water supply to this faucet must be shut off before beginning this repair.  

  1. Pull the spout (#1) upward to remove. Note: It is recommended to use a soft bristle brush to clean the inside of the spout (#1) to remove any debris.
  2. Using a flathead screw driver, gently pry the diverter (#3) out of the valve body (#2) to remove.
  3. Gently slide the new diverter (#2) into the valve body (#2) with the smaller end  of the diverter (#3) going inside the valve body (#2) first.
  4. Slide the spout (#1) on so that it meets up against the escutcheon plate (#4).
