Can I Replace My Shower Trim?
Can I Change My Moen Shower Trim Without Having To Change The Valve Behind The Wall? |
This guide will help determine the style of Moen shower trim kits that are compatible your current Moen shower valve. Moen has manufactured many types of shower rough-in valves including four types single handle shower valves. The trim kits are not interchangeable. It is important to identify which valve is currently installed by looking at the escutcheon screw location and the handle operation.
How to Identify My Valve: |
1. Does the escutcheon plate say Moen, Dialcet or Stanadyne?
2. How many handles do you have?
3. What year was the shower valve installed?
4. How do you operate the shower flow/temperature handle(s)?
5. Where are the escutcheon screws located?
Use the chart below to match the answers to the valve type.

Escutcheon Screws:Escutcheon Screws are located at 5 O’clock and 7 O’clock. *If your escutcheon plate has a push button diverter (diverts the water from the tub spout to the showerhead), contact Moen. *If your escutcheon plate has no visible escutcheon screws, contact Moen. |

Additional Information: The Type 1 Standard Valve: Introduced in 1960 operation and escutcheon screw location is similar to the Type 2 Moentrol Valve: Introduced in 1966. To determine the type of valve you have, you will need to remove the handle and the escutcheon plate. How to remove the handle: Lever: Use a 7/64" Hex wrench to remove screw under handle. Knob: Gently pry the cap with the Moen logo on it off and remove the Phillips screw. How to remove the escutcheon plate: Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the escutcheon screws. This may be difficult to remove from the wall as there may be caulking/sealant around the outer edge. With the use of a Moen 145058 adapter kit (Sold Separately), the shower valve below will accept many Moentrol trim kits that uses a 7" round escutcheon, except for the Flara, Doux, Weymouth, Arris, 90 Degree or Voss product lines. If your shower valve does not look like the image above, See Type 2 Moentrol Valve: Introduced in 1966. |
