Choosing A Garbage Disposal
Mounting Options |
Moen uses a Universal Xpress Mounting system for the garbage disposals. Universal Xpress Mount fits all Moen and most existing 3-bolt mounting assemblies. The compact design is lightweight for easier installation and frees up valuable space under the sink. Most models are now including Fast Track, which is used in conjunction with the Universal Xpress Mount. Fast Track uses a snap tool for a quick secure mounting of the assembly to make installation even quicker and easier. How-To Videos. |
How You Turn Your Garbage Disposal On |
There are two different ways your garbage disposal can turn on. One is through batch feed which are actuated with a stopper. These garbage disposals are turned off when the stopper is removed. The other is continuous feed. As long as the power switch is on, the garbage disposal will continue to grind. These must use either use a wall switch or an air switch to control the garbage disposal turning on and off. |
Selecting Horsepower |
Moen's range of horsepower options includes 1/3 HP, 1/2 HP, 3/4 HP and 1 HP. The higher horsepower models can grind a wider variety of kitchen scraps. All Moen garbage disposals feature the VORTEX POWERED® permanent magnet motor, which yields finely ground particles and helps reduce blockage and jamming. Every household is going to use their garbage disposal differently. Please refer to the chart below for a general reference guide in selecting horsepower. |

Cabinet Space |
Moen's GX Series and even more compact GX Pro Series will fit most cabinets and takes up less space than most competitors'. Be sure to consider the height between the sink and the cabinet floor, the width of the garbage disposal, and the measurements for where your current pipes (drain and/or dishwasher) line up to. Consult the specification sheet for the model you are interested in for detailed measurements of the garbage disposal. There are three important dimensions to consider- the top of the garbage disposal to the center of the dishwasher connection, the top of the garbage disposal to the center of the drain pipe, and the top of the garbage disposal to the bottom of the garbage disposal (see examples below). |

Power Source For The Garbage Disposal |
Air Switch |
The push of a button mounted on the countertop or sink activates the garbage disposal with air pressure instead of electricity. Push to turn on and push again to turn off. Air switches are sold separately from the garbage disposals. An air switch should be considered if there is no wall switch for the garbage disposal and you are using a continuous feed model. To make a complete air switch, you will need an air switch controller and an air switch button (available in multiple finishes). Air Switch Options. |
Wall Switch |
An on/off switch that uses electricity that, when turned on, will signal the garbage disposal to run. As long as the power switch is on, the garbage disposal will continue to grind. |
Lighted Garbage Disposal |
Motion sensing technology activates 6 LED lights when cabinet door is open. The sensor can be positioned to adapt to any installation. Lighted Garbage Disposal Video. |
