Kitchen Handle: Direct Connect 1255

Moen produces a variety of Single Handle faucets. The interior components and assembly are not the same for each model. This article will explain the newest handle assembly referred to as a Direct Connect 1255. This handle mechanism was introduced in 2009 and is very similar to the Direct Connect 4000. The characteristics of the mechanism include a handle rotation range of 110 degrees and a beige or red and blue round plug button. This faucet style utilizes a 1255 cartridge.

 Preparation:

Do not remove the black hex cartridge nut or the cartridge for this repair.

  1. Remove the plug button. Insert a 3/32" Hex wrench into the hole on the front of the handle and unthread the set screw (#1) counter-clockwise. It is not necessary to remove the screw, loosen it until the handle (#2) lifts off.
  2. Lift the handle (#2) upwards to remove.
  3. Pull the handle dome (#3) off.

To replace the cartridge see article 1255 Cartridge: Kitchen Faucet.

Assembly:

  1. Snap the handle dome (#3) back onto the faucet
  2. Place the handle (#2) on top of the stem of the cartridge (#4).
  3. Insert the 3/32" Hex wrench into the hole on the handle (#2) to tighten the set screw (#1). Insert the plug button.
