Shower Faucet: Low Flow-PosiTemp Valve

This article will help you determine the solution to the problem of a shower exhibiting low flow. This is based on the PosiTemp valve system. The characteristics of a PosiTemp valve are it's rotate only handle, and a back escutcheon plate with the screws located at the 2:00 and 7:00 position. This valve system utilizes a 1222 cartridge.

Symptom

Solution

Low Flow: Hot or Cold

Replace the 1222 cartridge, see article  1222 Cartridge: Single Handle Shower- PosiTemp.

Low Flow: Hot and Cold

Tub Spout and Showerhead- replace the 1222 cartridge, see article  1222 Cartridge: Single Handle Shower- PosiTemp.

Shower only- check the flow rate on the showerhead.

No Flow

Tub Spout and Shower:

  •  Confirm both hot and cold supply lines are both turned all the way on.

Shower only:

  • Test the flow of water with the showerhead removed (through the shower arm). If you are getting good flow through the shower arm- clean the showerhead to remove any debris and replace if necessary. If there is still no flow, replace the cartridge.
