Shower Faucet: Low Flow-Moentrol Valve

This article will help you determine the solution to the problem of a shower exhibiting low flow. This is based on the Moentrol valve system. The characteristics of a Moentrol valve are it's push/pull handle, and a back escutcheon plate with the screws located at the 2:00 and 7:00 position. This valve system utilizes a 1225 flow cartridge.

Low Flow: Hot and Cold

Confirm the handle is being pulled out to turn the water on to full capacity. Replace the 1225/1200 cartridge and clean the 1423 balancing spool, see article Maintenance: How to Clean a 1423 Balancing Spool.

No Flow

Confirm the handle is being pulled out to turn the water on.

Tub Spout and Shower:

  •  Confirm both hot and cold supply lines are both turned all the way on.

Shower only:

  • Test the flow of water with the showerhead removed (through the shower arm). If you are getting good flow through the shower arm- clean the showerhead to remove any debris and replace if necessary. If there is still no flow, replace the cartridge.
