Two Handle 4" Centerset Lever: Cap Style

Moen produces a variety of two handle bathroom faucets. The interior components and assembly are not the same for each model. This article will explain one of the most common handle assemblies referred to as a Cap Style Lever. This faucet style utilizes a 1224 cartridge.

Preparation:

The water supply shut off valves must be turned off- see article How to Turn Off the Water Supply to the Faucet.
Recommended Tools: Phillips Screwdriver, Pliers

Disassembly:

Gently pry the cap (#1) off.
Unthread the Phillips screw (#2) and remove.
Lift the handle (#3) off.

To replace the cartridge see article 1224 Cartridge: Two Handle 4" Centerset Bathroom Faucets.

Assembly:

The top of the cartridge stem matches the profile inside the handle. Use pliers to adjust the cartridge stem if needed.
Place the handle (#3) on top of the faucet
Thread and tighten the Phillips screw (#2).
Push the cap (#1) back in the top of the handle.
