Two Handle 8" Wide Spread Lever: Hex Screw

Moen produces a variety of two handle wide spread bathroom faucets. The interior components and assembly are not the same for each model. This article will explain one of the more common handle assemblies referred to as a Hex Screw Lever. This faucet style utilizes the 1224 or 1234 cartridges.

Preparation:

The water supply shut off valves must be turned off- see article How to Turn Off the Water Supply to the Faucet.
Recommended Tools: 3/32" Hex Wrench

Disassembly:

Remove the plug button (#1).
Using a 3/32" Hex wrench, loosen the set screw (#2) until the handle (#3) lifts off.
Remove the handle (#3).
Unthread the adapter (#4) counter-clockwise.

Assembly:

The handles (#3) must be assembled in in the off position. To accomplish this, rotate the plastic stem extensions (#5) all the way clockwise for the hot side, or counter-clockwise for the cold side.
Thread the adapter(#4) on clockwise.
Place the handle (#3) on in the off position.
Tighten the set screw (#2) with a 3/32" Hex wrench and push the plug button (#1) back in.
