Excessive Alerts and Compatibility with Other Devices
It is important to note that other installed devices can influence water levels in the sump pump basin. If you have another device that runs or tests water levels, it may interfere with the Sump Pump Monitor's readings and cause excessive alerts. The most common ones are:
- External sump pump controller: Only the pump must always be plugged directly into the Sump Pump Monitor. Any intermediary controller between the pump and the Sump Pump Monitor, especially ones that force the pump to run longer than necessary, can cause excessive alerts.
- Appliance drain: Any appliance that drains high volumes of water into the sump pump basin, causing water turbulence, could interfere with the sensor readings. For example, washing machines can discharge water and thus disturb the sensor signal.
- Manual pump events: Excessive alerts can also be caused any time the pump has been triggered manually.
To minimize excessive alerts caused by these devices or factors, regular inspection and maintenance of the sump pump system are crucial. It is important to ensure backup power systems are functioning correctly, check valves are in good condition, and plumbing systems are properly maintained. Regular monitoring and prompt addressing of any issues can help reduce the occurrence of excessive sump pump alerts.
