170206 Upper Bearing Washer-Single Standard Spout

This article will provide step-by-step instructions for replacing this upper bearing washer service kit.

Preparation:

  • The water supply shut off valves must be turned off- see article How to Turn Off the Water Supply to the Faucet.
  • Recommended Tools: Needle-Nose Pliers
  • The following instructions assume the handle and associated handle pieces have been removed. For additional details, visit solutions.moen.com and select the type of faucet you are repairing. The faucet guide will contain specific information on handle assemblies associate with that style of product.

1. Remove the upper bearing washer by using a pair of needle-nose pliers to gently pull back the prongs at the top of the upper bearing washer (until it is loose and can be lifted from the faucet). The upper bearing washer will be reused for this installation, when removing it be careful not stretch it from it's original shape.

Caution: Do not remove the black hexagonal shaped cartridge nut or the cartridge for this repair (see red circle below).

Note: The 170206 Upper Bearing Washer Service kit will include a rubber O-ring. Do not use the O-ring on this faucet style.

3. Position the upper bearing washer with the gap facing the back of the faucet. Lower the upper bearing washer down so the gap aligns with the raised rib on the back of the valve body. Confirm the bottom edge of the upper bearing washer is tucked into the top of the spout and all the prongs are tucked under the overhang on the valve body (A).

4. Test the installation. To confirm the upper bearing washer is in the proper position, gently pull up on the spout to verify it is secure and will not lift up.

  • Spout is not secure: This is an indication that the upper bearing washer is not seated properly against the valve body. Push the spout down as far as it will go against the countertop/base. Next push the bottom edge of the upper bearing washer down into the top of the spout. Ensure all the prongs are pressed under the overhang on the valve body. Re-test the installation. If the spout is still not secure, contact us or call 1-800-BUY MOEN for a new 170206 bearing washer service kit.
  • Spout is secure: Reassemble the handle pieces. If you need additional information, review Single Handle Standard Spout FaucetsOnce the handle has been reassembled, turn the water supply shut off valves back on.
