High Water Usage

This article includes detailed information on the Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff, also known as the Flo by Moen Water Shutoff.

What does High Water Usage mean?

High Water Usage is a critical alert related to an excessive, total amount of water consumed. This means that Flo detected that one or more of your water fixtures collectively consumed more water than is typically seen in your home or considered normal over that period of time.

At best and in most instances, this is the result of using more water than normal. For example, washing a car, filling a pool or otherwise running a fixture for a long period of time (like a bath or shower). At worst, this means that part of your home water supply is vulnerable, water is leaking and may be causing damage.

If you do not promptly reply to this critical alert, Flo may shut off your water as a precautionary measure.

What do I do about High Water Usage?

High Water Usage is a critical alert related to an excessive, total amount of water consumed.

If you received this alert and were using more water than normal, such as washing a car, filling a pool or otherwise running a fixture for a long period of time, you may consider clearing the alert and taking no further action. Remember that you can set your Flo System to “Sleep mode” before starting activities that will require large amounts of water to prevent this alert from being sent in the future.  If you plan to continue consuming large amounts of water when you receive the alert, you can also choose to “Ignore” future alerts for the next 2 or 24 hours.

If you were not using a large amount water when you received the alert, this may mean that part of your home water supply is vulnerable and water may be causing damage.  As a precautionary measure, Flo recommends immediately shutting off your water and inspecting your home and all water fixtures for any signs of water. Double check any faucets or toilets in case they have been left running. Even a slight trickle over an extended period of time can trigger this alert.

If you notice a leak, immediately take steps to limit the resulting damage and contact your local plumber or Flo Support or call 844-Meet-Flo for assistance.
