How to Choose a Lavatory Faucet
This bath faucet compatibility guide will help you choose the perfect Moen faucet for your sink configuration. You may need to go underneath the sink or remove the old faucet to see exactly how many holes your current sink has.
Faucet Compatibility |
When purchasing a new faucet, if the new faucet comes with a lift rod for the drain, make sure there is enough clearance between the back of the faucet and the wall/backsplash for the lift rod to properly operate. Consult your Moen specification sheet for clearance information. To confirm that a specific Moen lavatory faucet will fit perfectly in your sink, see How To Calculate The Overhang And Reach Dimensions Of A Lavatory Faucet. |
Single Hole |
If your sink has a single hole in it, you can use any faucet that is designed for a single hole mount. Some faucets come with an escutcheon (base) plate however they are not all required to be installed with the faucet. For this configuration, you will want a faucet that does not require an escutcheon plate. It depends on the faucet model so it is always best to check the specification sheet on whether or not it can be installed without the escutcheon plate. |

Three Hole |
How to tell what type of three hole faucet you currently have.
4" Spread If your sink has three holes in it and measures 4 inches from the center of the hot handle to the center of the cold handle, you can use any centerset faucet. If you are not sure if the new faucet is a widespread or centerset faucet, you can refer to the specification sheet for the faucet. |

8-16" Spread If your sink has three holes in it and measures anywhere between 8 and 16 inches from the center of the hot handle to the center of the cold handle, you currently have a widespread faucet. Widespread faucets generally come packaged in trim kits (these model numbers will start with the letter "T") separate from the valve underneath the faucet. A trim kit consists of the finished pieces above the counter (ex: handles and spout). If the trim and valve body come together then the widespread faucet model number will not have the letter "T" in front of it. If you are not sure if the new faucet is a widespread or centerset faucet, you can refer to the specification sheet for the faucet. *If your current valve body looks like this, it is not compatible with the new trim. You will need to purchase a new 9000 valve body. *Please note that a widespread faucet can not fit in a 4" centerset hole configuration. |
