Kitchen Handle 2H: Knob-Flat Cap (Prior to Late 2019)

​Moen produces a variety of two handle kitchen faucets. The interior components and assembly are not the same for each model. This article will explain the Flat Cap knob handle assembly. A characteristic of this mechanism is a large round cap on the top of the handle. When the cap is removed a Phillipls head screw is visible. This faucet style utilizes a 1224 cartridge.


Preparation:

Disassembly:

  1. Carefully pull the cap (#1) out of the handle (#3).
  2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the handle screw (#2). Lift off the handle (#3).

Assembly:

  1. The top of the cartridge stem (#4) matches the profile inside the handle (#3). Use pliers to adjust the cartridge stem (#4) if needed.
  2. Place the handle (#3) onto the faucet.
  3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, install and tighten the handle screw (#2).
  4. Snap the cap (#1) onto the handle (#3)
