Extended Water Usage

This article includes detailed information on the Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff, also known as the Flo by Moen Water Shutoff.

What does Extended Water Usage mean?

Extended Water Usage is a critical alert related to water running consistently for an excessive period of time. Receiving this alert means that Flo detected one or more of your water fixtures running consistently over a period of time that is longer than is typically seen in your home or considered normal.

At best and in most instances, this is the result of using water for a longer period of time than normal. For example, taking a longer shower, washing a car, filling a pool or otherwise running a fixture for a long period of time. At worst, this means that part of your home water supply is vulnerable, water is constantly leaking and may be causing damage.

If you do not promptly reply to this critical alert, Flo may shut off your water as a precautionary measure.

What do I do about Extended Water Usage?

Extended Water Usage is a critical alert related to water running consistently for an excessive period of time.

If you received this alert and were using water for a longer period of time than normal, like taking a longer shower, washing a car, or filling a pool, you may consider clearing the alert and taking no further action. Remember that you can set your Flo System to “Sleep mode” before starting activities that will require water constantly running longer than normal.  If you plan to continue running water for a long period of time, you can also choose to “Ignore” future alerts for the next 2 or 24 hours.

If you were not using a large amount water when you received the alert, this may mean that part of your home water supply is vulnerable and water may be causing damage.  As a precautionary measure, Flo recommends immediately shutting off your water and inspecting your home and all water fixtures for any signs of water. Double check any faucets or toilets in case they have been left running. Even a slight trickle over an extended period of time can trigger this alert.

If you notice a leak, immediately take steps to limit the resulting damage and contact your local plumber or Flo Support or call 844-Meet-Flo for assistance.
