Faucet Cartridges: Roman Tub Faucet

Moen makes roman tub faucets in a variety of configurations. The cartridges for these products are not interchangeable. To determine your cartridge, choose the installation closest to your fixture and click on the image to continue.

Two Handle Roman Tub Faucets by Installation Type
  • If the fixture is a two handle wall mount or floor mount, your cartridge is 1258, click here for additional information.
  • If the fixture is mounted on the deck, you will first need to determine if it is a garden tub or a roman tub. It is important to verify your faucet style because the cartridges are not interchangeable.

Step 2: Identifying The Cartridge by Installation Type

Moen has used four different cartridges in its two handle roman tub product line. Usually, the installation year is a determining factor for the cartridge (see details below). It may also be necessary to remove the handle for visual identification shown in the chart below. For additional details on handle removal, visit solutions.moen.com and select the type of faucet you are working on. 

​​Preparation: The water supply shut off valves must be turned off- see article How to Turn Off the Water Supply to the Faucet.
Garden Tub:

Cartridge: 14891

Cartridge Diameter: The diameter of the cartridge is approximately the same diameter of a penny: 0.72 inches (1.83 cm)

Cartridge Retainer: Nut

Introduced: Prior to 2000 (Models: 4902, 4995, 4997, 64997)

Cartridge Retainer: Embedded Cartridge Nut

Introduced:  In 2017, Moen began using both the 1248 and 1258 cartridges in their Deck Mount Roman Tubs. These cartridges are not interchangeable. Visual identification is required. For additional information, see articles:

Splined Stem Extension

Cartridge Diameter: The diameter of the cartridge is 0.88 inches (2.24 cm)

Cartridge Retainer: Embedded Cartridge Nut

Introduced: In 2017, Moen began using both the 1258 and 1248 cartridges in their Deck Mount Roman Tub. These cartridges are not interchangeable. Visual identification is required. For additional information, see articles:
