Faucet Cartridges: Kitchen

How to identify which cartridge your Moen one or two handle kitchen faucet uses by handle operation and color images of the various cartridges.

Preparation: The water supply shut off valves must be turned off- see article How to Turn Off the Water Supply to the Faucet.

The chart below gives details to help identify which cartridge your faucet uses. If the installation year for the faucet is unknown, it may be necessary to remove the handle before you begin. For additional details on removing the handle, visit solutions.moen.com and select the type of faucet you are working on. The faucet guide will contain specific information on handle assemblies associated with that style of product.


Cartridges Used in Single Handle Kitchen Faucets: Single Handle Standard Spout, Sidemount Handle with Pulldown Wand, Top Mount Handle with a Pullout Sprayer and Separate Handle Separate Spout

Cartridge Retainer: Hexagonal, Metallic Brass Nut

Installation:

The 40002 cartridge is interchangeable with the 4000 cartridge.

Cartridge Retainer Hexagonal, Metallic Brass Nut

Installation:

The 4000 cartridge is interchangeable with the 40002 cartridge.

Cartridge: 1255, 160657, 150257, 205013

  • Moen's Duralast cartridge (Fig. 1) is packaged under four different service kit numbers. Each service kit includes a different style of the cartridge retainer nut. When repairing the faucet, the cartridge retainer nut must be replaced. The cartridge retainer nuts are not interchangeable. You must identify the correct service kit.

Cartridge Retainer: Retainer Nut (variety)

  • 1255, 160657, 150257: The three cartridge retainer nuts are visually different and use a variety of materials, click here to view each version of the cartridge retainer nut.
  • 205013: This kit is specifically used on Top Handle with Pullout Sprayer Faucets after 2009 excluding the Dorsey 87007, CA87007, and Torrance 87666, CA87666 which use a 4000 cartridge.

Based on the type of faucet:

Introduced:

  • Prior to 2018: 1224 cartridge
  • After 2018: Select models began using the 1234 cartridge, see below.

  • No screw: Base of handle unthreads
