Kitchen Handle 2H: Hex Screw Lever

Moen produces a variety of two handle kitchen faucets. The interior components and assembly are not the same for each model. This article will explain one of the most common handle assemblies referred to as a Hex Screw Lever. A characteristic of this mechanism is a small round opening on the side or back of the handle that contains a hex screw. This faucet style utilizes a 1224 or a 1234 cartridge.

Preparation:

Disassembly:

  1. Using a 3/32" Hex wrench, loosen the set screw (#1) until the handle (#2) lifts off.
  2. Remove the handle (#2).

If the stem of the cartridge is white, see article 1224 Cartridge: Two Handle Kitchen Faucet With Escutcheon.

If the stem of the cartridge is stainless steel, see article 1234 Cartridge: Two Handle Kitchen Faucet With Escutcheon.

Assembly:

  1. The top of the cartridge stem matches the profile inside the handle. Use pliers to adjust the cartridge stem if needed. Place the handle (#1) on the faucet.
  2. Tighten the set screw (#2) with a 3/32" Hex wrench.
