How to identify which cartridge your Moen one, two or three handle bathroom tub and/or shower uses by handle operation and color images of the various cartridges.

  The guide below will help to identify which Moen cartridge your shower uses.

Independent Transfer Valve Cartridge

Moen has produced 7 types of independent transfer valves. These transfer valves divert the water from one shower device to another (ex: showerhead, handheld, etc...) however they need to be plumbed to a second valve to provide water to the system. The second valve is referred to as a mixing valve. This section of the chart is designed to identify Independent Transfer Valves #1.

#1-Independent Transfer Valve: The Transfer Valve is responsible for moving water from one shower device to another. The escutcheon/backplate is approximately 4" wide.

#2-Mixing Valve: The Mixing valve is responsible for turning the water flow to the entire system on and off and controlling the temperature. Certain mixing valves also control the volume of water. The escutcheon/backplate is approximately 7" wide.
